LUBRICATION OF RECIPROCATING COMPRESSORS

Perhaps the most important operational item in the field of compres-
sing gases is proper lubrication. To provide proper lubrication involves a
certain amount of intelligent care and attention.

Proper lubrication includes:

* Selection of a high quality lubricant suited for the particular service
conditions
* Cleanliness in storage and dispensing
* Application of correct quantities in a manner that permits effective
performance

Closely allied to the above three factors are maintenance of clean gas
into and throughout the compressor and the use of regular procedures for
inspecting, cleaning, and maintaining mechanical perfection, both in the
compressor and its accessories. Proper lubrication will lead to:

* Reduced wear rates of sensitive and critical parts
* Avoidance of catastrophic failure and malfunction
