Only one type of plastic pipe has been approved for use with com-
pressed air. That pipe, says the bulletin, is acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene
(ABS) and the pipe is marked as approved for compressed air supply. By
law, employers in Washington must protect their workers by avoiding the
use of unapproved PVC pipe in compressed air systems. Existing sys-
tems using PVC piping must be completely enclosed, buried, or ade-
quately guarded according to specifications approved by a professional
consulting engineer.
