This design, as shown in Figure 2-11, is used in very high-pressure
cylinders. Both single-acting ends may be identical in bore diameter and
can be used as single stages with both compressing the gas at identical
pressures and temperatures. An alternate design contains two stages with
different bore sizes, and operating pressures with resultant similar frame
loads. Each cylinder has one valve assembly, with the cylinder ported to
serve both suction and discharge valves. Plungers may be internally oil-
cooled. Pressures range from 5000 psi to 60,000 psi.
