                                  are “core” to the organization—values that cannot be abro-
                                  gated  in  pursuing  the  mission. In  its  values  statement,an
                                  organization is saying,“We want to attain our mission, but not at all
                                  costs: here is the way in which we will attain our goals.”
                                    Here is the values statement of Peet’s Coffee and Tea:
                                   • Supply  only  the  freshest,highest  quality  coffee  and  tea;
                                   • Maintain exemplary employee relations and training;
                                   • Encourage life-long customer relationships;
                                   • Remain the source of coffee knowledge;
                                   • Be ethical and socially responsible.
