wrap. To date, this effort has been unsuccessful because of a 4 in by 11 in paper label
adhered to each piece of plastic. Most recyclers will not accept plastic wrap with
labels. Three alternatives exist for alleviating this problem:

1 First option would be to hire an outside firm to remove the labels and ship the plas-
tic wrap to recyclers. Lott Industries would be suitable for this type of work. For
more information, contact the Lott Industries sales office. Note that this option still
                    requires disposal of the labels.
2 Second option would be to replace the paper labels with a plastic label that would
not have to be removed prior to recycling. It is critical that the plastic label is the
same type of plastic as the plastic wrap; otherwise it will have to be removed.
3 Third option would be to remove the label with in-house labor and ship the plastic
wrap to recyclers. Note this option also requires disposal of the labels.

Further research to determine the most economic option for the manufacturer should
be conducted. However, the manufacturer should base their decision on the ease of imple-
mentation, functionality, and cost. Please see Table 8.12 for a list of plastic recyclers.

8.10.13 PROPOSED CHANGES TO CURRENT WASTE
                 HANDLING PRACTICES

Given current observations from the waste composition in conjunction with the
potential waste reduction figures, the waste disposal needs of the company should
be evaluated from the standpoint of the capacity of its waste collection system.
