Finite-element calculations allow the complete start-up procedure to
be established and enable accurate predictions to be made about the
temperature and stress conditions occurring at any time between the
start-up and stationary condition.
Figure 5.6 shows the finite-element mesh of the high-temperature
section of the solid rotor for a 45-MW condensing turbine. This mesh
