The Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers prepared a generic, but mathe-
matically rigorous reliability study of an idealized radial power system that uses actual
field records of component reliability data gathered by the U.S. Army Corps of Engi-
neers Power Reliability Enhancement Program. Two radial systems are modeled:
1. The first with CHP run in parallel with a typical macrogrid utility (schematic
shown in Fig. 23-3).
2. The second without CHP (schematic not shown, but with the same power chain
architecture of Fig. 23-3 without the continuously operating 13.8-kV gas turbine).
