The authors also demonstrated that by employing ion exchange columns with appropriate mobile
phases the ionic silicon compounds could also be separated and detected at about the same level of
sensitivity.
The LC/ICP-AAS tandem system has been used to monitor many elements of environmental or
toxicological importance. Inorganic arsenic compounds, which are known carcinogens, are metabolized
in the body (and in the process detoxified) by methylation to monomethylarsonic acid and dimethyl
arsonic acid before renal excretion. It follows, that the determination of the metabolites in urine is a
convenient way of monitoring inorganic arsenic exposure. Dietary intake of arsenic is primarily from
seafood in he form of the arsenicals arsenobetaine arsenocholine. Intake of seafood results in a minor
increase in hydride generating arsenic compounds and a much greater excretion of total
