            The authors demonstrated the efficacy of the device by separating a range of different halogen and oxy-
            halogen ions. The sensitivity realized varied widely from 4 ng/s for sodium iodide to 300 ng/s for
            sodium bromide. These limits of detection do not approach those of ion chromatography, but the system
            does offer selective detection, which would allow the halogen peaks of interest to be picked out of a
            complex group of coeluting ions containing different elements.

            Synopsis

            LC/AS techniques are almost exclusively employed in elemental analysis. The different forms of
            atomic spectroscopy offer high element sensitivity unambiguous element identification, and can
            accommodate samples contained in almost any type of matrix. The early attempts at developing LC/AS
            tandem instruments was to couple a standard liquid chromatograph directly to a flame atomic
