process by attaching each additional transparency on a different edge of the original
transparency. Before taping, make sure that the images line up correctly over the top of
the original image.
You can use the overlay in two ways. The first is that when you are ready to discuss
the process or model, you can show only the first step of the process and explain that
others will follow. As you are ready to discuss the next step, flip the appropriate trans-
parency into position. The second approach is to show all steps overlaid briefly, and
explain that the process has X number of steps or points that are to be examined. You
can then flip all but the original image up and start discussing step or point number
one, followed by subsequent steps in turn.
Meeting Minders™
These handy pieces of equipment are actually chronological clock timers that you can
use on top of your overhead projector to project time onto a screen. They perform a
variety of functions, some of which include counting down the time from a preset point
to indicate when the time for an activity or test has expired (a buzzer sounds to alert the
end of time), performing as a standard digital clock to show time, and acting as a stop
watch to time events (see Creative Presentation Resources in the Resources for Trainers
in the appendices).
Transparent plastic clock faces
These static clock faces have a spinner that holds the hands in its center. Before send-
ing learners on a break, have them synchronize their watches with the classroom clock
and then set the clock face at the return time. When that time occurs, you can reward
those back in their seats, start an activity, or restart your session (see Creative Presentation
Resources in the Resources for Trainers in the appendices).
Plastic spinner
You can use a generic plastic spinner that consists of one small acrylic dial on top of a
larger one. You can write your own numbers, letters, and so forth onto the dial and use
it for games, activities, random leader and volunteer selection, or for any other purpose
you desire. The device comes with a variety of number templates and suggested usages
(see The Trainer’s Warehouse in the Resources for Trainers in the appendices).
Overhead scoreboard and game pieces
If you use team games in your training programs, these helpful devices make scoring
for activities easy and visual. You can either use an overhead projector marker to track
progress for up to seven teams or use the small game chips.
Shapes and images
Take another idea excursion to a local craft store and spend some time wandering the
aisles to examine what you find there. Open you mind to possible uses with the over-
head projector. Here are some that I found on a recent trip.
