In both versions, the three prerequisite subcategories are EA Prerequisite 1:
Fundamental Commission ing of the Building Energy Systems (EAp1), EA Prerequisite 2:
Minimum Energy Performance (EAp2), and EA Prerequisite 3: Fundamental Refrigerant
Management (EAp3). As it is typical for prerequisites, there are no points associated with
any of these three.
The points for the credits in the Energy and Atmosphere category are not necessarily
individually related to a specific credit in LEED-NC 2.2 and all in LEED-NC 2009.
Table 4.0.0 is a summary of the prerequisites and credits in both versions (2.2 and 2009)
with a comparison of the points available and a summary of many of the major
differences.
The prerequisites and credits in the Energy and Atmosphere category can be
grouped into the following four overall sets of goals:
• EAp1 and EAc3 provide, for commissioning, a design and construction
service that aids in improving various system efficiencies and reliabilities at
a site.
• EAp2, EAc1, and EAc5 help optimize the energy performance and reduce
energy usage at the site.
• EAp3 and EAc4 reduce the amount of pollutants at the site that are related to the
ozone hole in the stratosphere. These pollutants are ranked by their ozone-
depleting potential (ODP). EAc4 takes into consideration those ODP pollutants
that might also contribute to an index referred to as the global warming potential
(GWP).
• EAc2 and EAc6 promote the use of renewable or “green” energy sources. EAc2
promotes its use on-site, and EAc6 promotes its use off-site.
Some of the three prerequisites and six credit subcategories in the Energy and
Atmosphere category were previously referenced with different names in the older
version 2.1 as follows:
• EA Prerequisite 1 (EAp1): Fundamental Commissioning of the Building Energy
Systems (previously referred to as Fundamental Building Systems Commissioning
in LEED-NC 2.1)
• EA Prerequisite 2 (EAp2): Minimum Energy Performance
• EA Prerequisite 3 (EAp3): Fundamental Refrigerant Management (previously
referred to as CFC Reduction in HVAC&R Equipment in LEED-NC 2.1)
• EA Credit 1 (EAc1): Optimize Energy Performance (EB)
• EA Credit 2 (EAc2): On-Site Renewable Energy (previously referred to as Renewable
Energy in LEED-NC 2.1)
• EA Credit 3 (EAc3): Enhanced Commissioning (previously referred to as Additional
Commissioning in LEED-NC 2.1) (EB)
• EA Credit 4 (EAc4): Enhanced Refrigerant Management (previously referred to as
Ozone Depletion in LEED-NC 2.1)
• EA Credit 5 (EAc5): Measurement and Verification (EB)
• EA Credit 6 (EAc6): Green Power
