Chapter 4 Using Palm VIIs and Handspring Visors 91
The program then waits for you to enter a value in the form field. The de-
fault value is already set for you (50). Enter a new value to be set in the
EEPROM and click the Send Command button. The program constructs the
command in line 50, and then it sends the command to the SV203. It finishes
by playing a little beep and closing the communication channel.
HotPaw programs are saved as memos for the interpreter to run. The easi-
est way to enter the program is to find it on the CD-ROM with this book, save
it as a memo in the Palm Desktop, and then hot sync your PDA. Hot syncing
will transfer the memo to the PDA.
Enter and save this program to your Palm VII and attach the Palm VII to the
SV203. If needed, connect the power supply to the SV203 and turn the switch
to the on position. You can now use the program to set the baud rate of the
SV203.
Start by entering values close to 50, such as 49 or 51. After changing the baud
rate, try one of the sample programs from Chapter 5 again. If the robot can send
and receive from the Palm VII okay, you are done. Otherwise, you will need to
try a new value. If you tried 49 the first time, try 51; if you tried 51, use 49 the sec-
ond time. After each new value, test one of the sample programs. If you need to
try additional values, move by increments of 1 away from the default value
of 50. Eventually, you should find a baud rate that allows the Palm VII to
communicate with the SV203.
