92 The Ultimate Palm Robot
Restoring the Default Value
There is a chance that before you find a baud rate that works, you could set
the SV203 to a baud rate that prevents the Palm VII from communicating
with the SV203 at all. That means, of course, that the BASIC program above
will stop communicating with the SV203. At this point, you will need to reset
the SV203 manually to the default baud rate setting.
To reset the Pontech SV203 to its default setting, you will need to create a
circuit between two pins on the SV203 controller. Start by turning the power
switch to the off position. The SV203 has a block of pins marked J3. These are
the same pins into which the yellow wires from the sensors are plugged. If pins
7 and 8 in block J3 are connected while the board is powered on, the baud rate
of the board will be set to its default value. Connect each end of a single wire to
pins 7 and 8 as shown in the following illustration. Switch the power on, and
leave the SV203 on for at least 3 seconds.
This will reset the baud rate to 9600 and allow the Palm to communicate
with the SV203 once again.
Finishing Up
Once you’ve found a baud rate that works, write down the EEPROM value
you used and keep it in a safe place. You may need it in the future. You are now
ready to start playing with your robot.
