258 The Ultimate Palm Robot
Welded Warriors
If, like us, you’re convinced that robots should always be equipped with some
sort of death ray, you might appreciate Welded Warriors, a cool robot combat
game that more or less follows in the tradition of Mech games. In a nutshell,
you control a giant robot that fights battles in a large combat arena for money
and fame.
This ambitious game is part fighting, part role playing. You can visit locales
like the junkyard and machine shop, where you can purchase parts such as
power supplies, shields, and lasers for your robot. Then you equip your robot
with these devices and challenge someone to a fight (in the bar, of course).
Actualcombatisturn-based;youtapoffensiveactionssuchaskicking,punch-
ing, or firing your laser to inflict damage, and you defend yourself to conserve
power and recharge your shields. The full version of the game—which costs
about $15—features two dozen robots and 20 worlds to visit. It’s an entertaining
way to pass the time before your first morning meeting.
Botz
In the annals of computer gaming, two crazed-robot titles leap to the fore-
front: Daleks and Berzerk. Both are mindlessly simple games from the earliest
days of arcade gaming. Berzerk pitted you against a horde of zombie-speed
robots that meandered toward you as if their legs were filled with molasses,
while you tried valiantly to work your way through a maze-like set of rooms.
