Appendix About the CD 273
The Palm Robot Programmer Folder
This folder contains all of the installation files for the Palm Robot Programmer
software that we developed especially for this book. Installers are included
for all major platforms. Note: You must have Java 1.4 installed on your com-
puter to use the Palm Robot Programmer. If you don’t already have it, files on
the CD will help you get it installed.
To find the right installer for your computer, navigate to the subfolder that
best describes your system, such as Windows or Mac. Use this guide to figure
out which version to install:
❏ If you already have Java 1.4 installed on your PC, you can use
the NoVM installer, since you don’t need to install Java 1.4.
❏ If you need Java 1.4, look for the VM folder and use that
installation. It will install Java 1.4 to your system.
❏ If the folder for your system only has a NoVM installer,
you will have to get Java 1.4 from some other source, such
as http://java.sun.com/—we could not provide one for
you (sorry!).
Launch the installer and follow the instructions to install the Palm Robot
Programmer. You should be able to use the default choices offered by the in-
staller. After installation is complete, locate the program icon that was created
by the installer and use it to launch the Palm Robot Programmer.
You can find detailed information on how to create programs with the
Palm Robot Programmer in Chapter 6.
Inside the Other Applications Folder
The Other Applications folder is where you’ll find, well, everything that
isn’t the Palm Robot Programmer app. It has Palm OS software, BrainStem
software, and other goodies.
You’ll find a number of tools, for instance, that you can use to write pro-
grams for the PPRK:
❏ HotPaw The HotPaw folder contains the HotPaw Basic interpreter
for your Palm OS device. Unpack the archive and load the ybasic.prc
and mathlib.prc files to your Palm OS device. You will now be able
