Drawings and Specifications 187
SUMMARY
• When the drawings and specifications are submitted to the PM, he or she should
make sure all construction documents have been provided. A log of all the documents
must be requested from the design team. This will show the list of drawings, speci-
fications, addendums, bulletins, sketches, all with the latest revision dates.
• Time must be set aside by the PM so that sufficient effort is devoted to this process
of document review.
• The PM must check all the construction documents on a page-by-page basis to eval-
uate the constructability of the project.
• A list of long lead items has to be prepared so those items that may fall outside the
initial schedule can be ordered early.
• The construction document review will also assist in a value engineering analysis that
may be required during the document preparation phase of the project.
• The owner must be made immediately aware of any problems found with the con-
struction documents review.
• Coordination of all the design team drawings must be accomplished by the PM to
avoid conflicts.
• Access for maintaining equipment, pipes, etc. must be established by the PM.
