Factors that influence the required size of the explosion vent include:

• Volume and shape of enclosure such as cubic or elongated (silos).
• Homogenous or non-homogenous mixture (pneumatic filling).
• Maximum pressure allowed during venting.
• Static bursting pressure of the venting device.
• Explosion severity of the potential hazard, expressed in terms of hazard
classes KST for dust or KG for gas.
• Generally, the application of Nomograms.
