112 What Type of Leader Are You?

opment, while making sure that the organizational structure and
systems support people in doing their best work. Two leaders may
also demonstrate skill and strength in knowing the organization’s
structure, systems, and processes. Because they like to help others
navigate the organizational system and usually are well net-
worked—often having provided assistance to many people in the
organization—Twos usually know how to expedite the process of
        getting things done.
Many Two leaders are visionary and adept at enlisting others.
They often work from an intuitive mission and strategy, and their
efforts are focused primarily on establishing meaningful goals and
giving other people support in their tactical pursuits. Twos are
likely to check in regularly with others to make sure that every-

customers. We just all want to do our best for him. Maybe
it’s because he believes in us, and we don’t want to disap-
           point him.”

However, some Two leaders, particularly early in their careers,
may focus too much on pleasing customers or ensuring that the
employees who work for them are happy and motivated, while
underemphasizing other important factors. For example, these
leaders may focus on keeping current customers happy, but lose
sight of whether or not these customers are beneficial in terms of
future business. Similarly, a Two may emphasize creating structures
and processes that support the people who are currently doing the
work, rather than creating structures and processes that best suit
the work and then securing people who can work well within that
framework. In addition, some Twos pay a great deal of attention
