ierre  Bourdieu

            Pierre Bourdieu (b. 1930), sociologist and educationalist, is one
            of the most prominent exponents of French cultural studies. In a
            string of books, he has painstakingly shown the complex and
            intrinsic relationship between the struggle for social power and the
            use of cultural products by different social groups. Bourdieu starts
            by asking: who consumes what kind of culture? And what effect
            does this consumption have? In L'Amour de I'art: Les Musees
            d'art Europeens et leur public (1966) Bourdieu and his
            collaborator,  Alain  Darbel,
            show  that  the visitors  to
            state-run  art  galleries
            are  divided  along
            class  and
            educational
            lines.
