knowledge. Then you have to be willing to accept yourself
and reflect your values in your decisions and actions. And
once you identify those critical aspects of who you are, it’s

yourself not only how you are doing but also if you are
doing the right things.
The following set of questions will help you start shap-
ing or reshaping your authentic self as a leader:
Leadership values: what’s most important to you?
• What are your top five leadership values, and how
would you prioritize them in your role today?
• How have you handled situations in which these val-

• To what extent do you deviate from your leadership
values when you are under pressure?
Leadership principles: what are your core beliefs?
• What are the principles that guide your leadership
behavior and actions? Do you share those principles
with others?
• If you disregarded one of your top leadership princi-
ples, what would the loss or consequence be for you?
How would getting off course affect your credibility
and the respect that others have for you?
• Do your leadership principles align with your current
role as a leader?
