what’s really important to you, what you are committed to,
and what your priorities are in both the short and the long
term. This gives you a true sense of direction along with a
clear purpose and vision for yourself. It serves as a compass
in your life that promotes consistency in what you say and
do. When others see this consistency, they are more likely
to trust you, respect you, and be willing to follow you.
This aspect of leadership is critical in today’s climate
because it provides an anchor for leaders who are dealing
with so much change and uncertainty while constantly fac-
ing new challenges. It also serves as a timely navigation sys-
tem to let leaders know when they are getting off the track
and need to make midcourse corrections if they are to be
successful. It gives them confidence to ride out the storm
