AUTHENTICITY
Hillary Clinton? I am not sure that there is a simple answer
to that question, but her career over the past few years has
certainly given us a better opportunity to see that along
with her tremendous intellect and drive for results, she has
some very endearing personal characteristics.
On the presidential campaign trail, she emphasized her
experience relative to that of her opponents, which in
some ways put her out there as a “celebrity.” When you are
in that situation, people tend to put you under a micro-
scope and report on or talk about everything that you do
and say. However, by then there was already a significant
shift in how people perceived the “real” Hillary from the
past view, which was less compassionate, passionate, and
internally driven.
Things started to change when she began to campaign
for and won the New York Senate seat. During the cam-
paign, she was repeatedly seen as curious, caring, and con-
cerned. In 2006, Dan Ackman with Elaine S. Povich wrote
in “President Hillary Clinton?” published on Forbes.com,
“She appears to be thinking through each answer to a ques-
tion, even if she’s heard it many times before. She makes
eye contact and sprinkles her comments with touches of
wit. She knows she’s on the record, yet there’s the feeling
that her answers in private would be much the same.”
Hillary became known for actually listening to what the
people of the state of New York were telling her as she vis-
