vulnerable with others. This other expression of Hillary
enabled her to truly connect with the audience, which was
made up primarily of women.
Whether this emotional moment was due to extreme
fatigue from the grueling campaign schedule, as some have
suggested, or whether Hillary simply revealed her heartfelt
feelings about her commitment to making this country a
better place, this personal reaction created a new percep-
tion of her among women throughout the country. Sud-
denly, they saw that inside this tough-as-nails political
candidate was a real person with the same vulnerabilities
that they had. Soon after this happened, the polls indicated
that Hillary had gained a majority of the women’s vote, pri-
marily because women could now identify with her more
than they could with the other candidates.
When Hillary started to be more expressive, she realized
that people liked that part of her. She began to talk more
publicly about her personal side, which included every-
thing from her family upbringing and her motherly
instincts to many other personal experiences and lessons
learned that were pivotal in shaping the person she is today.
She also began to show another side of herself, which
was the fun, humorous, and personal woman that she is at
the core. One example that illustrated this was when she
was a guest on the Late Show with David Letterman. While
she was a little nervous, knowing that talk-show guests can
sometimes get skewered, she hoped that it would be fun
