         ing  of the  profiles  to  create  an  overlapping  effect. When  the  hydraulic  cylinder reaches
         the end  of its  stroke,  the grid  system  reverses  at a  speed  2  to  3  times  the forward  speed.
         This  allows the  triangular  profiles to  wedge  their way  under  the  sludge.  This  oscillating
         movement of the  collector with  the  concave  profile  is  said  by  the  manufacturer  to  pro-
         vide thickening  of the  sludge.
           The  low clearance of  10 in.  (25  cm)  on the bottom  of the  basin  allows the  system to
         work well under  tube-and-plate  settler  systems.
