2.1.- The first thing we need to do after opening SOLIDWORKS is to make a New

Part file. Go to the "New" document icon in the main tool bar and select it.

Creates a new document.

We are now presented with the New SOLIDWORKS Document dialog. For

our first part we'll select the 'ANSI-Inch-Cast Alloy Steel' template made in the

previous section and click OK; if the dialog is not showing the different template

tabs, select the "Advanced" button in the lower left corner. In this step is where

we tell SOLIDWORKS that we want to create a Part using the selected template's

properties. As previously mentioned, additional Part templates can be created with

different settings, including different units, dimensioning standards, materials,

colors, etc. As we move through the exercises we'll create additional templates

with different document units, material, etc. Using the "Novice" option creates

documents using the default templates.
