The Emerging Career Model

need for material gain and for intangibles (humility,
selflessness, and fulfillment). The result is what people

need most today: the ability to make a living while
             making a meaningful difference.
“The American Dream,” which is commonly

defined today as the pursuit of financial wealth and is
characterized by excessive materialism, must give way
to a higher calling. Organizations with a people-cen-
tered culture encourage individuals to live their lives
aligned with godly values, which, in turn, make

             impossible dreams possible.
Of the two models illustrated in this chapter, which
                                                                  43
affords the better opportunity to make impossible =

dreams possible? Great things, even impossible things,
occur when humans are connected to a higher pur-
pose, one that is best represented in the new, emerg-
ing career model. Some of America’s and the world’s
greatest accomplishments never would have transpired

if people had not been connected to a higher purpose.
Engaged business leaders who are part of a culture-
             driven, people-centered enterprise understand the

importance of talent and the bearing it has on the bot-
tom line. As a result, addressing turnover is a high pri-
ority. For example, turnover is a constant battle in the
             supermarket business.
