In my varied professional career, I have seen a wide
variety of nontraditional incentives used to establish

a personal connection with team members. Here are
just a few meaningful examples, some of which we
have used at United:

1. Distribute tickets to concerts or local

entertainment events, and allow team members
to invite family and friends.

2. Lease a cabin in the mountains or on a beach, =

and allow team members to take their families
and friends for a week at a time.
3. Lease a private suite for a college or
professional sporting event and allow team
members to bring their families.

4. Provide a team member with a gift card and a
personal word of thanks.
5. Send a team member and his or her spouse on a

romantic getaway.
6. Hire a professional photographer to take a
formal family portrait. Have it framed to match
the team member’s home décor.
