                                  CALCIUM SOAPS

Calcium soaps such as calcium stearate, calcium palmitate, and calcium
abietate are made by the action of the sodium salts of the acids on a solu-
ble calcium salt such as calcium chloride (CaCl ).
                                                              2
Calcium soaps are insoluble in water but are soluble in hydrocarbons.
They tend to form jellylike masses and are used as constituents of greases
                    and as waterproofing agents.
