Continuum NasoXplorer manipulator with shape memory actuators 315
of their homes, at ease. While the device is slim and can be handled via one-
handed operation, there are still some features that we would like to improve
to ensure it is optimized for personal and home use. The NasoXplorer con-
sists of features that allow patients to undergo smooth and easy self-
administered endoscopy. These include the use of soft materials, the sizeable
bending angle of the device, and external controls to increase patient com-
fort and enhance confidence in using the NasoXplorer. Future add-ons
include the optimization of the Arduino code and the provision of a box
for the control system. The inclusion of automation will reduce the time
required for a full endoscopy procedure. Since the NasoXplorer is to be
self-administered, training and demonstrations will be carried out to educate
the patient on proper usage of the device. Usage of a home-based kit for
nasopharyngoscopy is a more convenient, less time-consuming, and cheaper
alternative for patients who require consistent nasopharyngoscopy in clinics
and hospitals.
