impossible to arrive at a viable approach to the issue of the erosion of
tradition or even to discuss it rationally while globalization takes the grossly
unequal form which it presently does. The source of the problem of fun-
damentalism, therefore, is not the erosion of tradition by itself, but the
manner in which the erosion is proceeding – throwing hundreds of million
into the direst poverty and threatening millions more, including increasingly,
millions in the United States and the United Kingdom. The problem is not
globalization per se. It is globalization led and exploited by finance capital.
