                  Adding materials to your
                  pattern library

                       4. Now you’re ready to add these materials to the current pattern library. Click the BlueCarpet.jpg
document window. Choose Edit Define Pattern to open the Pattern Name dialog box. In the
Name box, remove the dot and the file extension (leaving the name BlueCarpet), and click OK.

                       5. Repeat step 4 twice more, and add CeramicTile and Mahogany to the library. Close all the doc-
                          ument windows without saving.
                       6. Now that you have added all the patterns to the library, you can save the library for future use:
Choose the Paint Bucket tool (press G), and select Pattern in the Fill drop-down on the Options
bar. Click the drop-down menu to open the Pattern Picker. Click the right-facing arrow to open
the Pattern menu. Select Save Patterns to open the Save dialog box (see Figure 5.28). Type the
filename My Patterns and click the Save button. You now have a separate pattern library that
includes only the patterns you defined.

NOTE By default, Photoshop saves patterns in C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop CS\
Presets\Patterns. Pattern libraries have a .pat file extension in Windows.
