Chapter 21: Adding Hyperlinks to Spreadsheets 281
13. While Macros is selected in the Categories list box on the Commands tab, drag
the Custom Button (the one with happy face icon) to the floating Links toolbar.
14. Select Change Button Image on the custom button’s shortcut menu and then
click the two-page icon on the pop-up palette (the icon at the start of the sixth
row of the palette).
15. Assign the Mind Over Media Web site URL address to the first custom button on
the Links toolbar.
Click the Existing File or Web Page button in the left panel before you click
Browsed Pages button in Look In section of the Assign Hyperlink: Open
dialog box. Then select Mind Over Media Home to insert http://www.
mindovermedia.com into the Address text box. Alternatively, type the URL
in this text box yourself.
16. Add a second custom button to the Links toolbar and then assign the ? (question
mark) as the button’s image and my e-mail address as its hyperlink.
17. Add a third custom button to the Links toolbar using the default happy face
image and the Dummies Web site URL (www.dummies.com) as its hyperlink.
18. Close the Customize dialog box and then test out the hyperlinks you added to
your custom menu items on the Help menu as well as the buttons on your
custom Links toolbar.
The great thing about assigning hyperlinks to custom menu items and custom
buttons on toolbars is that you can access their links anytime you work on any
spreadsheet in Excel. (Of course, in order to be able to use links assigned to
custom buttons, their toolbars must first displayed somewhere in the Excel
workbook window.)
19. Close the Links custom toolbar and then exit Excel without saving changes to
your Solved21-3.xls workbook file.
To delete a custom menu item from a pull-down menu or a custom button from a tool-
bar, open the Customize dialog box and then drag the item off of the menu or toolbar.
To move an item or a menu or a button on a toolbar, drag it to a new position. To add a
new section by inserting a separator line into the menu or toolbar you’re customizing,
drag the menu item down or the button to the left or right until the separator appears.
