Depending upon the level of security that is currently in place on your computer,
Excel may display an alert dialog box warning that hyperlinks can be harmful to
your system. If this is the case, select the Yes button to ignore the warning and
                                         continue opening the workbook file.
                                    13. Press Alt+← to return to the Solved21-2.xls workbook (this is the equivalent of
clicking the Back button on the Web toolbar).
                                    14. Use the hyperlink attached to the calendar graphic to return to the open 2006
Calendar with links.xls workbook and then close this file.
                                    15. Close the Solved21-2.xls workbook without exiting Excel.

                                    Adding links to Web pages

Traditionally, hyperlinks have been associated with making jumps between Web pages
on the Internet. Excel enables you to add this kind of traditional hyperlink to text
entries and graphic objects in your workbooks as well. In addition to opening Web
pages on a corporate intranet site or on the Internet, you can add hyperlinks that open
new e-mail messages to important clients and co-workers.

In the next exercise, you get an opportunity to create a hyperlink in a new workbook
that takes you directly to my Web site, www.mindovermedia.com, as well as starts a
new e-mail message addressed to yours truly.

Note that you must have Internet access in order to be able to successfully complete
                                    Exercise 21-3.

                          Try It

Exercise 21-3: Adding Hyperlinks to Web Pages and E-mail Addresses
Open a new workbook in Excel in which you will construct a Mind Over Media work-
sheet containing a hyperlink to open the Home page of my corporate Web site and a
link that opens a new e-mail message addressed to me:
                                     1. Rename Sheet1 to MOM (for Mind Over Media).
                                     2. Choose the Insert➪Picture➪From File menu command to open the Insert Picture
                                         dialog box.
                                     3. Click the My Documents button in the pane on the left and then open the
Chapter 21 folder in the Insert Figure dialog box by first opening the My Practice
                                         Spreadsheets folder.
                                     4. Click the momtrdmk.gif file icon in the Chapter 21 folder and then select the
                                         Insert button.
                                     5. Reposition and resize the Mind Over Media logo graphic object so that its sizing
handles cover the cell range B2:D5 in the MOM worksheet (your sizing and posi-
                                         tioning can be approximate).
                                     6. Right-click the Mind Over Media logo graphic object and then select Hyperlink
on its shortcut menu to open the Insert Hyperlink dialog box.
                                     7. While the Existing File or Web Page button is selected in the Link To pane on the
left and the Current Folder button is selected under Look In, click the Browse the
Web button (the one to the immediate left of the Browse for File button).
In response, your Web browser opens, displaying your Start page.
