What You’ll Find on the CD
The following sections are arranged by category and provide a summary of the software and
other goodies you’ll find on the CD. If you need help with installing the items provided on
the CD, refer back to the installation instructions in the preceding section.
Third-party software
Shareware programs are fully functional, free, trial versions of copyrighted programs. If you
like particular programs, register with their authors for a nominal fee and receive licenses,
enhanced versions, and technical support.
Freeware programs are free, copyrighted games, applications, and utilities. You can copy
them to as many PCs as you like — for free — but they offer no technical support.
GNU software is governed by its own license, which is included inside the folder of the GNU
software. There are no restrictions on distribution of GNU software. See the GNU license at
the root of the CD for more details.
Trial, demo, or evaluation versions of software are usually limited either by time or function-
ality (such as not letting you save a project after you create it).
The CD-ROM contains the following third-party add-ins and utilities, which can help you be
more productive as you begin using Excel on your own:
Crystal Xcelsius Professional 4, by Business Objects at www.xcelsius.com. This
trial version of the Professional edition of Windows-based Crystal Xcelsius uses
Macromedia Flash technology to enable you to create truly compelling forms of inter-
active charts and visual spreadsheet models referred to by Business Objects as visual
analytics. These visual analytics offer the capability to display worksheet data values
simply by positioning the mouse over a portion of the graphic. You can also add slid-
ers to perform ad hoc what-if analysis. They can be easily output to PowerPoint and
PDF documents, Outlook messages, and Web pages for sharing with your clients and
colleagues.
ESQuotes by Gilmore Software at www.esquotes.com. This evaluation version of
ESQuotes offers you an easy method for tracking your entire portfolio of stocks and
mutual funds in a single Excel workbook.
MZ Tools VBA Add-Ins by MZ Tools Software at www.mztools.com. This freeware col-
lection of Visual Basic for Applications add-ins consists of a wide variety of tools
designed to help you in developing efficient, error-free Visual Basic code for your
Excel workbooks.
