6.4.2.3 PERFORMANCE EVALUATION OF EFFICIENT AND
              DEGRADABLE DEGREASER
6.4.2.3.1 Oil Removal Evaluation of Efficient and
              Degradable Degreaser
This mainly evaluates the degradation rate under certain conditions.
Experimental Method The performance evaluation experiment includes three
parts: measurement of the initial oil content of oily cuttings, degreasing experi-
ment of oily cuttings, and the measurement of oil content extracted from
degreased oily cuttings. The specific steps are as follows:
                1. Measurement of initial oil content from oily cuttings
The oil content is calculated by measuring the water and solid con-
tent of oily cuttings. As the oily cuttings have high oil content, conven-
tional methods of measurement are limited because they require several
dilutions, resulting in experimental errors. Therefore, the frequently
used method of oil content measurement is measuring the water and
solid content of oily cuttings, and then the oil content. The measure-
ments are processed according to GB/T 260-77 Petroleum Products-
Determination of Water. Specific experimental procedures for measuring
solid content and calculation of oil content are as follows:
                   a. 10.0 g oily cutting samples (M, g) of exactly 0.1 g each were prepared
and placed in a round-bottom flask. Then, 60 mLof petroleum ether
was added. The liquid was shaken until the oily cuttings were
                      completely dissolved.
                   b. A moisture tester was connected, and water cooling was used for
condensation reflux. The round-bottom flask was heated with a
heating jacket until the volume of water in the riser didn’t increase
anymore. The volume in the riser was read when the flask cooled
                      (V, mL).
                   c. The filter paper was put in an oven and dried until it was of constant
weight. The filter paper (M l , g) was then put in the Buchner funnel,
and the solid and liquid in the distilling flask were filtered by
                      pumping.
                   d. The filter paper and the Buchner funnel were used for pumping the
solid and liquid mixture in the round-bottom flask. The residue and
filter paper were then baked together (105 C), and the final residue

                      mass (M 2 , g) was calculated.
                   e. Calculation
Computational formula of water content is (H w , %):
                   V 3 ρ
              H W 5 3 100%
                     M
Computational formula of solid content is (H s ,%):

                   M 2 2 M 1
              H S 5 3 100%
