                                     In portland cement, tricalcium silicate is a solid solution containing
                              minor amounts of oxide and is known as an alite phase. Alites may contain
                              Al, Mg, and Fe. Several alites were prepared containing Al, Mg, and Fe and
                              were hydrated for different periods. The degree of hydration was deter-
                              mined according to the DTA method suggested above. In Fig. 19, the
                              compressive strengths of these samples are plotted at different degrees of
                              hydration. [36]  Compared to pure C S, Fe-alite gives higher strength at any

                              degree of hydration. This is attributable to the differences in the intrinsic
                              nature of the hydration products.
