                  The multishaft cycle (Fig. 5) is fundamentally the same as Fig.  3,  but  it
               uses parallel condensing and noncondensing turbines. The electric output can
               vary  over  a  wide  range  without  changing  the  water-desalting  production.

               Although many other cycles are possible, all are variations of the three basic
               arrangements described above.

               2. Choose the type of cycle and reactor size to use
               Figure 6 allows quick estimates of the type of cycle and reactor size. Any of

               the four plotted quantities can be determined from Fig. 6 when the other three
               are known.
