this behavior was attributed to the combined effects of wettability and mechanical strength
15
of rubber at the optimum molecular weight. In the case of shear strength, the behavior
was attributed to the maximum cohesive and adhesive strength during the shearing
15
action. Peel and shear strength also increased with increase in rate of testing, an observa-
15
tion which was associated with the viscoelastic response of the adhesive. At low rates,
15
the response was predominantly viscous and cohesive failure occurred. At higher rates,
15
the response became predominantly elastic which resulted in adhesive failure.
