42 Splay
42.1 Description
Splay is a defect where silver or white streaks appear on the surface of the part.
Many defects get called splay. Therefore, an in-depth evaluation of the defect must
be used to determine if you are truly dealing with splay. For an example of splay
see Figure 42.1.
Also known as: silver streaks
Mistaken identities: scratches, scuffs, flow lines, or flaking/cold slugs
