Balancing Your Work and Life 53
Relationships include family and friends as well as colleagues and
clients. What constitutes a relationship for you? Who are your
most important relationships and what kinds of things do you
want to do with those folks? Do you get as much time as you
would like or think you should have for those activities?
Health has to do with your mental, emotional, and physical well-
being. We’re more aware than ever of the need to exercise and
stay fit, but what about the other aspects of health? Do you exer-
cise? Do you get enough sleep? Do you eat right on most days and
keep your vices (chocolate, wine, French fries) to a moderate
level? Are health issues, lack of energy, or insomnia impacting
other aspects of your life?
Spiritual/character refers to that connection you have with some-
thing greater than yourself. It might be religion, a philosophy, or
some other system that provides you with guidance and inner
strength. What do you believe in? Is it important to you today?
If so, why and how does it manifest in your everyday life?
Career is more than just your job. It’s the broader areas of interest,
dreams, and passions that are related to what you do for a living.
It’s the big picture and small details that make your workday mean-
ingful. How does your current job relate to your career aspirations?
The components will change over time. When you make your
wheel, feel free to take out any component that’s not important to
you now and insert another that is—and revisit when you believe it
might have changed.
I encourage you to take a few moments now and chart your wheel
right here in the book as it is today.
