        G. Task forces develop and implement a timeline
and critical events schedule, within the steering
           committee’s deadlines.
Task forces should complete three primary
           functions:
           1. Identify and collect data on the issues.
              For example,
              ■ Develop knowledge from within the task
                force.
              ■ Develop interview data from others out-
side the task force who have information
(often done by you and/or consultants).
              ■ Identify case studies and events that show
                the organization’s strengths and weakness.
           2. Analyze data and organize findings,
              conclusions, and recommendations.

issues papers and develops overall findings,
           conclusions, and timing depending on
recommendations of preceding steps. Weeks 12 to 18

        APPOINTING A STEERING COMMITTEE
To gain influence, you must give influence and empower those around you.
Appointing a steering committee is an effective way to gain power by sharing
power. The steering committee will oversee the organizational analysis. It will
coordinate and drive the analysis forward and develop and help implement
the solutions. The steering committee is critical to the success of the project.
Appointing a steering committee helps accomplish many of the goals of
the analysis. A steering committee encourages participation in the diagnostic
process, building organizational buy-in and commitment. It focuses energy
on renewal, communicates a sense of “we-ness,” and fosters the belief that
everyone can help make things better.
