One route that this research could follow would be to examine ideas
of copyright, which seeks to limit a text’s circulation. Most contemporary
understandings of text today hinge at some level on copyright, intellectual
property law, and the figure of the author as a legal function. Understandings
of how such ideas interact with older notions of circulation, particularly
between heaven and earth, will prove a fruitful route to pursue. Could one
ever imagine copyright in heaven?
