Prevent the Problem

Multiple countermeasures (Fig. 5-33) were implemented including upgrades to
the operating system in over 600 servers to prevent password file corruption
and other problems.

Check Results

In less than 6 months they had exceeded the goal by achieving a 74% reduction
(Figs. 5-34 and 5-35). A system was implemented to monitor and manage out-
ages for both immediate and long-term improvement.
