You can normally set both the temperature of this air and the flow rate. You will need to control
the flow rate because many SMD components are so small that they can easily be blown away by the
pressure of air from a hot-air gun.
Solder Paste
When soldering SMDs, you can, with care, use regular solder. However, if you are using a hot-air
gun or a reflow oven, then you will need to use solder paste (Figure 7-8). Solder paste is available in
both lead-based and lead-free varieties and suffers the same pros and cons as those variants of
regular solder.
