ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Warren J. Smith is semi-retired at Rockwell Collins
Optronics in Carlsbad, California, after more than six
decades of practice in optical engineering, design, and
fabrication. He is a consultant, writer, lecturer, occasional
expert witness, and one of the most widely known writers
and educators in the field of optical design. Mr. Smith is a
Fellow and Past National President of both SPIE and the
Optical Society of America. He is also the author of Modern
Lens Design, now in its Second Edition, and Practical
Optical System Layout, both published by McGraw-Hill. He
resides with his wife in Vista, California.
