132 Nail the Job Interview!
I was let go at ABC Trucking Company three years ago. I could
have stayed, but my supervisor asked me to falsi@ the accounts to
avoid payroll taxes. I rejked to do so and was inmediately locked
out of my ofice and terminated. This was a dificult periodfor me
jnancially since I remained unemployed for nearly three months.
But I don’t regret what I did. Honesty in the workplace is very
important to me. No job is worth breaking the law over. In fact,
my former employer is now under indictment for tm evasioiz.
9 How long have you been looking for another job?
Whatever you do, don’t answer this question by indicating you
have been loolung for a long time. You may sound desperate or
incapable of finding work with others. If you have been loolung
for a while, emphasize how selective you are in settling for a
quality employer. For example,
I’ve been exploring the job market for the past few months. Since
I’m looking for something vey special that jts my particular
interests and skills, yours is onEy one Of veryfew positions I’ve seri-
ously considered.
9 Are you willing to relocate?
You’ll have to supply the answer to this question. Obviously, if
you are unwilling to relocate and the job requires relocation,
don’t expect to be considered further for the position. At the
same time, you may want to appear “open” on this question,
especially if relocation is an option as long as you laow where
you will be going. Employers today understand the serious
implications of relocation for spouses and families. For example,
It depends on where I would be required to relocate. I do have a
family with a working spouse and school-age children. Since GI
relocation decision aflects them as much as me, this is something I
would need to discuss with them. Wiere would I expect to be relo-
cated and within how long after joining the company? Does the
cornpay provide relocation assistance for working spouses?
