            The  group  piles  were  connected  by  a  massive  reinforced  concrete  cap  and
            arranged  in  a  2×3  configuration  with  centre-to-centre  spacing  of  three  pile
            diameters, as shown in the inset to Figure 10.16. The lateral load was applied at
            the level of the ground surface for both the single pile and the pile group. The
            soil was generally classified as silty sand or silt with occasional layers of silty
            clay. The water table is at approximately 1 m below the ground surface.
              The soil parameters adopted for the PGROUPN analysis include a profile of
            the initial soil modulus of 77 MPa at a depth of 1 m (where the bottom of the pile
