pads—four-pad designs are very popular with steam turbine designers,
followed by those using five pads. The pivot loading is another design
parameter to consider; load between pivots is used almost exclusively
with steam turbines, as opposed to load on pivot. A typical steam tur-
bine tilting-pad bearing is shown in Fig. 3.7 with four tilting pads
loaded between pivots.
