A further key part of the scoping study (see Step 3 of Figure 7.2) is to gain
an assessment of existing levels of OEE and the potential for improvement.
One of the most powerful ways of gaining a 'snapshot' OEE is to carry out
a study of a machine, line or process by spending at least a whole shift on the
specific plant item in order to see the reality of the actual situation.
Figures 7.16, 7.17 and 7.18 show the valuable outputs of such a study.
Figures 7.19 and 7.20 show the results of a five-month reference period
analysis to set realistic challenges on downtime and scrap improvement.
