both the excitation light for fluorescence and the light used for absorbance measurements. Light of the
selected wavelength passes through a third half mirror, and is focused onto the sample cell. The light
reflected at right angles from the third half mirror is focused onto another photoelectric cell. The output
from this second photoelectric cell provides a reference for fluorescence measurements. The fluorescent
light emitted at right angles to the excitation light is focused onto a monochromator and the dispersed
light measured by a diode array. Light reflected at right angles from the second half mirror is focused
through an optical fiber into the sample cell, and the transmitted light passes to a second
monochromator, and dispersed onto another diode array.
